Cougars Pound T-Birds, Nail Down Second in 2A-3

The Rector Cougars took second in the 2A-3 baseball conference when they pulverized Cross County Thursday, 13-0.

In the final conference, game Sam Westbrook pitched all five innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight batters.

The highlights offensively were Nick Hardin had two hits with a triple, Brian Hufty was 1 for 3 with a triple, Lawson Ford was 1 for 4 and Kirk Beshears was 1 for 3 with a double.

"It feels good to end conference second," cougar Coach Dorman said. "I'm proud of the boys."

The Cougars beat visiting Bay, 5-0, Monday making them 11-5 overall.

Hardin started out on the mound, pitching five innings, giving up five hits, allowing no runs and striking out 10. Westbrook pitched the last two innings, giving up only one hit and walking two. Hardin came back in and picked up the win.

Offensively, Westbrook was 2 for 4 with a double, Ford was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Hardin was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

"Bay's a good match for us, and good practice for the upcoming tourney," Dorman said.
