The first round of district tournament play in softball and baseball was completed yesterday, Thursday, April 30, with the second round set for later today and the championship games on Saturday.

Both the Rector Cougar baseball and softball squads were idle in the first round, and both will play at 5 p.m. today at BIC in 2A-3 action. The Lady Cougars are slated to face Riverside while the baseball Cougars will take on EPC. The Warriors advanced to the second round with a 19-1 thrashing of Marmaduke to earn the bracket spot opposite the Cougars.

In the 3A-3 softball tourney at Wilson, the Piggott Lady Mohawks were idle in the first round, based on their number one seeding, and will play the host Lady Colts at 2 p.m. today, with Corning and Manila meeting in the 4 p.m. game. The winners will meet tomorrow for the title.

The baseball Mohawks are hosting the 3A-3 tourney at Independence Park, and advanced last night with an exciting come-from-behind win over Manila by a final of 10-6. The Tribe trailed 5-4 going into the top of the seventh inning, and posted 5 runs to take a 10-5 lead into the home half of the frame. Starter Bret Fuller went the distance, and although they surrendered one run on a wild pitch, the Mohawks held on for the win. They're slated to take on the top seeded Rivercrest Colts at 6 p.m.

In the early game on Thursday Hoxie beat Osceola 18-5, and the Mustangs will take on Corning in the 4 p.m. game today in Piggott. The championship game is set for Saturday.
