Edwards Named Director of Home Health at PCH
James Magee, executive director of Piggott Community Hospital, announced recently the appointment of Melissa Edwards, RN, as director of home health. Edwards has worked for the hospital's home health department for 19 years and moved from the role of case manager to director.
"I'm now responsible for seeing that patients receive the best care possible while remaining at home," said Edwards. As a case manager, she admitted patients, administered IV and IM medications, drew blood, and provided patient and family education as well as administering wound care, if needed. With her new duties, she is no longer seeing patients, but her on-hands experience of 19 years has prepared her well for the job.
With home health offices in Rector, Corning, Piggott and Campbell Edwards ensures the offices are staffed and is ultimately responsible for all patients. She is also the administrative liaison to the hospital.
Edwards achieved her nursing degree at Arkansas State University, and later worked at a Paragould hospital in medical and surgical care. In 1997, she returned to her hometown of Piggott, where she has lived all her life. "At the time, my oldest daughter was starting school in Piggott, and that's where I wanted to be, close to my family," said Edwards. She has three children and two grandchildren who also live in Piggott.
