AAA Announces Classes, Conferences for 2016-18
Recently the Arkansas Activities Association announced the final reclassification, and conference assignments, for the 2016-2018 cycle and local teams will see changes. And, although the changes don't take affect for well over a year, the Rector Cougar and Piggott Mohawk football and basketball teams, and the Marmaduke basketball squads, will all welcome new opponents, including some familiar former foes.
The Rector Cougars welcome one new member to 2A-3, as KIPP Blytheville College Preparatory School joins the conference for the cycle. They replace Walnut Ridge, as the Bobcats move up to 3A. Rounding out the conference are current members Cross County, Earle, EPC, Midland, Marked Tree and Salem.
Two former foes join the Mohawks in 3A-3 beginning in the fall of 2016, as Walnut Ridge joins the ranks along with the Newport Greyhounds as they drop down from 4A. Rounding out the football conference are the usual suspects, Corning, Hoxie, Manila, Osceola and Rivercrest.
The Mohawk basketball teams will see two new members added to their conference for the coming cycle, as the two teams moving up from 2A to 3A join the fray. Included are Walnut Ridge and the Riverside Rebels, both of which were former conference members with the Tribe in years past. Rounding out the conference are Corning, Hoxie, Manila, Osceola, and Rivercrest.
The biggest impact of the realignment will be for the Cougar and Greyhound basketball teams, as they'll welcome two new conference members to 2A-3 who are located halfway across the state. Replacing Walnut Ridge and Riverside will be Cotter and Flippin, which are located just miles apart just southeast of Bull Shoals Lake. They're joined by Sloan-Hendrix, Buffalo Island Central, EPC, Marked Tree, and Salem.
Again, the changes don't take affect this coming season, but in the fall of 2016.
