The schedule is set for the 83rd annual Pollard Picnic, set for this Saturday, July 11. The event is held each July at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery.

Once again this year Gary Conley will serve as the MC, as the picnic is set to officially open at 9 a.m. Throughout the day there will also be live music between events and pageants, with J.R. Rogers and the All Star Band providing both entertainment and the sound system.

During the opening ceremonies the invocation will be given, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem. Following the opening ceremony remarks from local and regional politicians, and candidates, will be heard. Afterward, at 10 a.m. the first of the pageants will be held.

At 11 a.m. the kitchen will open and volunteers will be serving fried chicken dinners throughout the day. The full schedule of ball games will also be getting underway Saturday morning, and will wrap-up in the late afternoon hours.

Also on the schedule is the annual bubble gum bubble blowing contest, for boys and girls up to the age of 12, set for 2:30 p.m. Event organizers will also be recognizing the oldest man and women present, and the person traveling the furthest, with registration at the bank stand.

A variety of stands will be in operation throughout the day, and at 6 p.m. the annual auction of donated items will be held.

Visitors to the picnic will also have the opportunity to buy chances on drawings for $50, $100 and a handmade quilt and organizers note you do not have to be present to win. The drawings will be held at the conclusion of the picnic, following the annual Miss Pollard Pageant Saturday evening.

Organizers note there is still time for contestants to sign-up for the pageants being held in conjunction with this year's Pollard Picnic. The picnic will be held this Saturday, July 11, in that community and the pageant committee has announced the following schedule.

The first pageant will be held at 10 a.m. as boys and girls ages birth to 12 months compete in the Baby Pollard contest. At 10:30 a.m. boys and girls ages 12 to 24 months will participate as the Toddler Pollard contest is held. And, at noon little boys and girls ages 2 to 4 will compete for the titles of Petite Mr. and Miss Pollard.

The Little Miss Pollard pageant is set for 3 p.m. and is open to girls ages 5 to 7, and at 5 p.m. the Junior Miss Pollard pageant will be held for young ladies ages 8 to 12.

The entry fee for all pageants is $25 per contestant, and all of the early pageants will feature sportswear or casual wear, and no pageant wear will be allowed.

The highlight of the day will get underway at 8 p.m. as Miss Pollard will be crowned from among contestants ages 13 to 18. The entry fee is also $25 for this pageant, but formal pageant wear is the proper attire and will be allowed.

Pageant officials request all contestants pre-register before the day of the contest, and payment of the $25 registration fee is due before the start of the event. Organizers also note there will no practices. Those wanting additional information, or to register, may call 870 450-0805, 870 544-2525 or 573-778-2535.

The annual Pollard School Reunion is set for Friday, July 10, and this year will be held at a new location. This year's reunion will be held at the Pollard Community Center, with the doors set to open at 5:30 p.m. and a potluck dinner at 6:30. All former students and staff are invited to attend, and everyone is reminded to bring their own eating utensils along with a dish.
