The Family Care Clinic of Rector, an affiliate of Piggott Community Hospital, has added Lauren Ashley Willmer, APRN, as its newest clinician. Willmer is now seeing patients of all ages in family practice on a full-time basis. She joins Dr. Jerry Muse and Tonny Dement, APRN, in providing care to area patients through the Rector facility.

A native of Greenville, Miss., Willmer received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Arkansas State University. She later graduated from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice Family Nurse Practitioner option. During her graduate program, she provided nursing service at Miracle Kids Success Academy in Jonesboro for three years.

An advanced family nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who has completed additional training beyond that of a registered nurse. Nurse practitioners treat both physical and mental conditions through comprehensive history taking, physical exams, and ordering tests for interpretation. As a family medicine practitioner, Willmer will address women's health and pediatrics.

Nurse practitioners can provide a diagnosis and recommendations for a wide range of acute and chronic diseases within their scope of practice and provide appropriate treatment for patients, including prescribing medications. In this role, Willmer can serve as a patient's primary health care provider.

Similar to all medical professions, the core philosophy of the field is individualized care that focuses on patients' conditions as well as the effects of illness on the lives of both the patients and their families. Family nurse practitioners make prevention, wellness and patient education priorities.
