Golf Season Underway for High School Teams
The high school golf season is underway for local teams, with Piggott, Rector and Marmaduke all in action this week. The Cougar team was in competition at Manila, and this year's squad includes freshmen Evan Dooley and Trey Rodden, sophomore Garrett Burns and seniors Lawson Ford, and the defending state 2A golf champion, Kade Scott. The coach is Matt Mills, and the team will be in action throughout the fall semester.
Meanwhile, the Greyhound and Mohawk teams were in action at Fox Hills, in Paragould on Tuesday.
Taking low medalist for the boy's was Piggott's Noah May, with a 41, while Cody Ails paced the 'Hounds with a round of 48. Rounding out the boy's scoring for the Tribe--Trey Gossett shot a 54, Isaac Langley had a 55, Reese Gurley shot 57, Luke Carpenter carded a 59 and Ethan Holcomb shot a round of 64. For Marmaduke, Cody Burks shot a 50, Luke Richey carded a 57 and Austin Hendrix had a round of 59.
For the girls, Lady Mohawk standout Ashlee Vaughn picked up where she left off last fall, taking medalist honors with a 48. Meanwhile, the Lady Greyhounds were paced by Julie Foster with a 56.
The Mohawk teams are scheduled to be back in action on Monday, Aug. 17, at Corning will travel to Batesville on Tuesday, and they'll visit Osceola next Thursday, Aug. 20. The Mohawk golf teams are coached by Alan Rabjohn.
