A Piggott man was killed Sunday afternoon at the Lincoln Street rail crossing in the city. According to reports from the Arkansas State Police, Aaron L. Beaver, 27, died when the car he was driving was struck by a southbound freight train when he apparently failed to stop at the crossing.

The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m., as Beaver's 1997 Ford Mustang was struck as it traveled eastbound onto the crossing. The front of the freight train impacted the front of the car, spinning it into the side ditch and ejecting Beaver from the vehicle.

He was transported to Piggott Community Hospital where he was pronounced. The body was later moved to Hoggard and Son's Funeral Home.

Beaver was alone in the car at the time of the accident, conditions were clear and the roadways were dry. The accident was initially investigated by the Piggott PD, and was then handed over to the jurisdiction of the ASP with Trooper Michael Tompkins handling the investigation.

Funeral services for Aaron Beaver were conducted Wednesday at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, the complete obituary may be found in that section of this website.
