Cecil Bowers, 87, of Jonesboro, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015, at his residence. Cecil was born on March 19, 1928, in Knobel, to the late Fred and Ethel (Henry) Bowers.
As a young man he was drafted into the military where he served two years with the United States Army. He worked most of his career as a self-employed diesel mechanic. Cecil was a member of the Southwest Church of Christ, and he was a fun loving person. He loved to fish and hunt, especially pheasant hunting, and enjoyed his many travels to South Dakota to hunt pheasant with his friends. He and his wife also loved traveling the world to see new destinations.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Wayne Bowers; two brothers, Fredmon and Gerald Bowers and one sister, Aline Cruce.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Bowers of the home; a brother, Melvin (Linda) Bowers of Jonesboro; two sisters, Lola Bowers of Memphis and Leone (Ray) McKay of Park Hills, Mo. and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Steve Martin officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will take place at 3 p.m. in Bond Cemetery in the Knobel area. Visitation will be held from 12:15 to 1 p.m., prior to services, Wednesday at the funeral home.
