James Floyd Turner
James Floyd Turner, 72, of Rector, passed from this life onto glory on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born on March 12, 1943, in Rector, to the late Wayne and Hilda (Ketner) Turner. He was ordained as a minister on Aug. 13, 1977, and from that time on served faithfully as a pastor in many Arkansas and Missouri church's, served as Sunday school and bible class teacher and served as a teacher and board member of the General Baptist Camp Allen. He was active in the community acting as a Rector School Board member for 23 years, was member and past president of the Cattleman's Club, and served the country in the National Guard. He was a life--long farmer, a lover of nature and loved planting his gardens and orchards. He also worked at Emerson Electric and Wise Company.
James was a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and grandson. James had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed growing unusual plants, caring for a variety of animals, woodworking and clock making, but the thing he enjoyed most of all in life was being able to spend time with his loving family and numerous friends. He enjoyed children, especially his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and church children.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Archie and Martha Jane Kennedy and two brothers-in-law, Webb Greenway, and Garry Dooley.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Jolene (Kennedy) Turner of Rector; one son, Barry Scott Turner and wife Barbara; two grandsons, Michael and fiancÚ Jessica Harmon and Barry Andrew Turner; three step-grandsons, Jeremey, Jeffrey and Jason; a step-granddaughter, Jessica White; great-grandsons: Caleb Manning, Jordan and Tyler Turner; great-granddaughter, Karissa Samples; his sisters, Linda Greenway of Rector and Nina Dooley of Conway and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 19, 2015 at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector. A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 20, at the First General Baptist Church of Rector with Bro. Ernest Rinks, Kenny Burns and Kenny Price officiating. Burial followed in the Woodland Heights Cemetery.
