Cougar Golf

Rector's Kade Scott finished second in the District 2A-3 golf tournament Monday at the Turkey Mountain course in Horseshoe Bend. The performance places him in the state competition Oct. 6 at the Holiday Island golf course in Eureka Springs.

Scott is the defending Class 2A state champion.

He shot an even-par score of 73, placing him runnerup behind Buffalo Island Central's Trey DePriest. Scott won this event last year with a score of 77, beating his own score this year by four strokes, but DePriest swooped in and took the individual title.

"I thought Kade played extremely well, beating his score from last year," coach Matt Mills said. "I think DePriest will be Kade's biggest competition at state."

Three other Cougars played in the tournament. Lawson Ford notched a 115, Evan Dooley ended with a score of 128 and Garrett Burns shot a 132.

The Cougars also played two matches last week -- the district tournament is 18 holes while regular matches are nine.

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the team played at Victory Lake Golf Course in Corning. Scott was low medalist with an even par 35, Dooley scored 60, Trey Rodden 64 and Hunter Ellis 66.

Scott placed third Monday, Sept. 14, with a score of 39 at Big Lake Country Club in Manila, three strokes over. Dooley finished with 64, Rodden 66 and Ellis 67.
