Rahn Wins Piggott School Board Race
Jennifer Rahn defeated Katie Lipsey for a seat on the Piggott Schools Board of Education in last Tuesday's annual school election. Rahn was running for the second year in a row, after losing a close race to Chris Roberts in a run-off in 2014. She polled 256 votes while Lipsey garnered 132 in her first run for office.
Rahn replaces Neil Morgan on the board, who chose not to seek re-election after serving two five-year terms. Monday evening Rahn was officially sworn-in to the office by Clay County Clerk Pat Poole at the courthouse in Piggott.
Piggott patrons also favored extension of the current millage, with 260 voting in favor of the extension while 119 noted no.
The extension does not mandate any additional taxes for Piggott District patrons, just an extension of the current rate.
School officials had asked for the extension in order to meet future needs for the district, which included addressing looming problems with HVAC units and roofs at both campuses.
Rahn will take part in her first meeting as a member of the Piggott School Board on Monday, Oct. 12.
Meanwhile, Kirk Ford was unopposed for re-election to the Rector School Board and will be serving another five year term.
