Car-Train Crash Claims Life of Rector Man
Hershal Wayne Horner, 76, of Rector was killed Friday, Oct. 2, when the Kia SUV he was driving was struck by a southbound freight train just south of Rector.
The accident occurred at 12:32 p.m. on a private drive adjacent to Highway 49. Horner was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller.
Eyewitnesses said Horner stopped at the tracks, but then continued across, resulting in his vehicle being struck by the train, Miller said.
Horner was active in the Red Cross and the Clay County Food Bank. A complete obituary appears in that section of this website.
