Football Cougars Drop Games
Rector's senior Cougars lost, 20-14, to the Midland Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 16, at Pleasant Plains.
"We made several mistakes, but we played hard," coach David Hendrix said.
Garrett Buck ran in a 20-yard touchdown early in the first half. Lawson Ford also scored off a quarterback keeper from one-yard out, and a pass from Ford to Brian Hufty brought in the PAT.
"We shot ourselves in the foot," coach Hendrix said. "We just couldn't get it in the end zone." A couple of fumbles and three costly 10-yard penalties for holding in the second half did not help matters.
"We played hard, but we just didn't necessarily play as well as we could have," Hendrix said.
The Cougars will next play at 7 p.m. Thursday against visiting conference foe Cross County Temerian Field.
Junior High Action
The junior high Cougars fell, 30-6, against Earle on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Temerian Field.
"We got off to a slow start, but played really well against an undefeated Earle," coach Hendrix said.
The only score of the night for the Junior Cougars came on a 62-yard halfback pass from Max Ford to Shannon Patterson in the second half.
"We came out slow, but got better as the night progressed," Hendrix said.
The Junior Cougars will travel to Marked Tree, where they will take on the Indians at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in their final game of the year.
