Evelyn (Dees) Payne Turner
Evelyn (Dees) Payne Turner, of St. Louis, Mo., went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at the age of 85. She was born on August 19, 1929, to the late Ebert and Mary (Causey) Dees in Piggott, Ark. After graduating from Piggott High School, Evelyn married Fay Payne on May 24, 1947, and moved to St. Louis. Fay preceded her in death in 1987. Evelyn married Jack Turner on Feb. 3, 1992, and he preceded her in death in 2014.
She is the beloved mother of Linda (Gary) Immekus, Charles Payne, Jimmy Payne and the late Kevin Payne; grandmother of Laurie, Todd (Paula), Missy, Christina (Todd), Justin, Madelyn (Sean), Jason, Brandon (Mimi) and Jaime; and great-grandmother of Grant, Ryan, Noah, Maryssa (Jeremy), Joshua, Charlee, Jessica, Grayson, Aiden, Leeland, Zander and Lathan; step-mother of Debra (James) Leahy and Gary Turner; step-grandmother and step-great-grandmother; dear sister of Louise Crow, Ethridge (Linda) Dees, Norman (Nancy) Dees and the late Burnies Dees (Wilma); aunt and cousin.
Evelyn was employed by Hancock High School as secretary to the Guidance Counselor from 1969 until she retired in 1992. She was honored by the Hancock School District by being chosen one year as "Grand Marshal" of the school parade that ushered in the annual school picnic.
She was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Lemay for 30-plus years and Victory Baptist Church for the past 23 years.
Evelyn had a generous heart and loved her family and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking (her family especially enjoyed her delicious fried chicken and chocolate cake), canning, quilting, sewing, crocheting, reading and studying her bible.
