Paris and Atkins Advance in 3A Volleyball State at PHS
Early round play of the 3A state volleyball tournament concluded Thursday afternoon at Piggott High School, with a pair of thrilling matches. In the early match the Paris Lady Eagles advanced over Hoxie in a battle which many felt featured the two best teams in the bracket. The Lady Eagles came from behind to take the first set 25-21, with Hoxie responding with a 25-21 win in the second. Paris took the third 25-21 and earned the trip to the final with a 25-19 fourth set win.
In the late match it was Atkins over Walnut Ridge, as the Lady Red Devils took it in three straight, 27-25, 25-23 and 26-24.
With the wins both Paris and Atkins advance to the finals, set for tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 31, in the Hot Springs Convention Center.
The first match of the day will begin at 11 a.m. as the 5A title is decided between Batesville and Valley View. The Lady Blazers hosted the early rounds and advanced fairly easily, with straight set wins over White Hall, Little Rock Christian and Nettleton. Meanwhile, Batesville swept Magnolia in the first round and then beat previously undefeated Beebe and back-to-back champs Paragould to advance.
The 6A final is set for 1 p.m. Saturday between Greenwood and Marion; Har-Ber and Fayetteville will meet for the 7A title at 3 p.m. with Paris and Atkins to follow at 5. The final match will be the 4A championship, as Shiloh Christian will take on Mena.
