CSM Howard R. Harrell
CSM (Retired) Howard R. Harrell, 79, died October 3, 2015, at San Antonio, Tex. He was born May 4, 1936, in Piggott, Ark., to the late Walter and Thelma Harrell. He attended Piggott High School and graduated in 1954.
Following graduation from PHS, and a time in the Arkansas National Guard, CSM Harrell had a highly-decorated and distinguished career in the United States Army, serving over 35 years. He served as CSM for Health Services Command at Ft. Sam Houston prior to his retirement in 1990.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Harrell and wife Sandy, his son, Charles Harrell and his wife Kim and his daughter, Karen Cate and husband Norris; his brother, Bill Harrell and wife Beth, his brother, Rex Harrell and wife Judy; his sister, Roma Potts and husband Ray, his sister, Mary Howell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Ann Harrell.
Funeral services, with full military honors, were held Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Dodd Field Chapel at Ft. Sam Houston. Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Sunset Funeral Home.
