High School Football Playoff Update

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

The first round of the 2015 high school football playoffs are history, with the second round to be played this Friday, Nov. 20, across the state. Of the five teams from 3A-3 to qualify, only top-seeded Rivercrest and Hoxie advanced with wins. Meanwhile, in 2A-3, only the conference winner, Cross County, made it out of the first round.

Conference champion Rivercrest advanced with an easy home win over Cedarville 43-0, and they'll take on Episcopal Collegiate Friday night at Wilson. Meanwhile, Hoxie had their hands full with a tough Fouke Panther team, but pulled out the 21-14 win. The Mustangs will host Glen Rose Friday night at Hoxie. If both the Colts and Mustangs notch wins in round two they would meet for the second time this year, at Wilson, on Nov. 27.

Meanwhile, Osceola fell to Greenland 35-6, Cedar Ridge was drubbed by Lamar 50-22 and the Manila Lions traveled to Smackover and fell 53-16 to the highly-ranked Buckaroos.

In 2A playoff action, the Thunderbirds of Cross County advanced with a 36-29 win over Murfreesboro, and will meet the Hazen Hornets at home this Friday evening. Meanwhile, Earle fell to Magnet Cove 43-36, Walnut Ridge was shut out by Des Arc 44-0, Marked Tree was eliminated by Brinkley 21-20 and Salem was pounded by Mount Ida 49-8 to end their season.
