Cougars Fall on Late Tip, Earle Too Much for RHS Girls
Maynard's senior boys tipped in a shot in the final second to win, 58-56, over visiting Rector on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
Maynard led after the first quarter, 9-7, but the Cougars came back to post quarter leads of 25-18 and 43-30 heading into the final eight minutes.
"We played really hard, but we are still getting the team together and building them up," coach Matt Mills said. "We struggled really hard to get to the basket and were 11 out of 30 in the lane."
Leading in scoring was Lawson Ford with 19 points with five treys. Other scorers were Garrett Buck 11, Chase Jackson 7, Huston Highfill 6, Danny Hager 3, Sam Simmons 3, Kirk Beshears 3 and Case Watson 3.
The junior high knocked off the Tigers, winning 53-31. Leading quarters for the Cougars were 10-6, 20-14 and 33-23. Scoring for the Cougars were Trey Rodden 7, Dalton Brown 7, Max Ford 6, Parker Bucy 6, Lastin Lindsey 6, Shannon Patterson 5, Ty Jones 5, Mike Hart 5, Evan Dooley 2, Conly Lockhart 2 and Kale Hardin 1.
"The junior high boys played really well and executed good shooting," Mills said.
The Rector Lady Cougars fell hard, 60-18, to Earle on the Lady Bulldogs' home court Monday, Nov. 23.
Quarter leads for the hosts were 21-5, 33-7, 47-17.
Scoring for the Cougars were Matison Dean 8, Tori Hill 6, Emma Hobbs 2, Dominique Coln 1 and Madison Chandler 1.
"Earle is a really good team and they really put the pressure on us," coach Matt Dean said. He added this was the eighth game the girls had played in 12 nights and the team had played tired.
The junior high girls fired much in the same manner losing, 44-17. Leading quarters for the hosts were 15-3, 23-8 and 34-12. Scoring were Michaela Rients 6, Gabby Clark 5, Mylesa Gant 2, Sawyer Hendrix 2, Shianne Rients 1 and Colby Robinson 1.
