Small Business Saturday is Set

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Rector Downtown Central and the Rector Chamber of Commerce will host a free kickoff breakfast for Small Business Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the community center.

There will be free doughnuts, coffee, milk and juice for the whole community. The organizers will also give away 190 free canvas tote bags stuffed with goodies from local businesses.

Small Business Saturday was launched in 2010 by American Express and now, along with support nationally, an estimated 14.3 billion dollars were spent nationally at small independent businesses on the day last year, according to www.americanexpress.com/shopsmall.

Small Business Saturday falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving day. The goal for Small Business Saturday is to get out and shop to support local small businesses. To do that, Rector Downtown Central and the Chamber will host a passport challenge for customers who want a chance at winning $200 and $50. A "Small Business Saturday Passport" will be handed out at the kickoff breakfast for customers to get stamps at the open Rector small businesses including The Corner Bookstore, Front Street Finds, Honeysuckle & Home, Mosley Auto Parts, Snow and Associates Tax and Financial Services, Wilson Outdoors and Freddy's Mexican Restaurant.

Once they get the required number of stamps, by visiting and/or shopping at the businesses, they can enter the passport for a chance to win a grand prize of $200 or $50 in Rector local dollars. The prize will be redeemable at any one or all of the following businesses (and more businesses can be added to the list): Above & Beyond Salon, B&H Auto Sales, The Corner Bookstore, Ed's Shop, Front Street Finds, Honeysuckle & Home, Mosley Auto Parts, Rector Downtown Drug, Sain's Argo & Collision, Wilson Outdoors, Freddy's Mexican Restaurant, Travel Destinations, Snow and Associates Tax and Financial Services and Stephen Duncan Chiropractic.

The Rector Community Museum will also be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. selling memorial and scenic tiles. A drawing to determine the prize winners will take place Monday, Nov. 30, and winners will be notified by phone. Winners will also be announced in next week's edition of the CCTD.

Locally owned small businesses which want to be involved on Small Business Saturday (even if your business is closed on this day), please call (870) 595-2300 and speak with Christina Boyd.
