Winfred Ashley Buchanan, Jr.
Winfred Ashley Buchanan, Jr., 72, of Piggott, Ark., died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born September 28, 1942 in Gideon, Mo., the son of the late Winfred Ashley Buchanan, Sr., and Bernice (Bridges) Buchanan.
On Dec. 2, 1967, he was married to Mary Jo Jackson in St. Louis, and she survives.
Prior to coming to Piggott to embrace the life of a gentleman farmer, W.A. had spent 30 years in the Forth Worth area of Texas. A proud member of the U.S. Naval Air Reserve, he has always had a keen interest in wildlife, plants, gardening and landscaping. He and his wife enjoyed travelling together and with family friends. When resting at home he was fond of watching the classic Hollywood Westerns. W.A. had a deep affection for his children and grandchildren, delighting in their visits to his home in Fort Worth.
In addition to his wife, Jo, of Piggott, he is also survived by two sons, Terrence Buchanan and Kris of Ft. Worth, Tex. and Scott Buchanan and Amie of Flowermound, Tex.; one daughter, Michelle Kimball and Rustin of College Station, Tex.; three brothers, Ron Buchanan, Keenan Buchanan and Jerry Buchanan, all of Gideon; a sister, DeLois Ross of Gideon; seven grandchildren, Jessica Buchanan, Alexis Buchanan, Brenden Buchanan, Allison Buchanan, Colton Crews, Cassidy Crews and Connor Crews along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, in the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with Rev. Earl Dell officiating. Burial, with full military rites, followed in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton. Visitation was held beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, and continued until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was charged with the arrangements.
