Traffic along East Main Street in Piggott was snarled during the noon hour on Monday, after a car crashed into a building injuring one of the occupants.

The investigation continues, but initial indications were that a car, driven by Kenneth Bradshaw of Pollard, careened out of control as it crossed the railroad tracks while traveling east on Main Street. The vehicle, a Chevrolet Cavalier, then impacted the northwest corner of the former Piggott Carpet building, trapping the passenger inside.

Piggott Police and firefighters responded to the scene, and were able to extricate the victim, a woman, from the car and she was transported from the scene.

Eyewitnesses indicated the car crossed the railroad tracks at a high rate of speed, then traveled through the vacant gas station building nearby before crashing into the structure.

The force of the impact also showered debris onto passing cars, and left brick from the building in the parking lot on the north side of the street.

The investigation continued at last report by the Piggott P.D.
