Winter Weather Bears Down on Area

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

A winter storm is forecast to push through Clay County tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 16, and travel is expected to be impacted on Wednesday morning.

A winter weather advisory is in effect beginning at 9 p.m. today, and will continue through noon on Wednesday. Forecasts vary, with the National Weather Service calling for a light covering of freezing rain locally, followed by around two inches of snow. Other forecast models are calling for in excess of three inches of snow, and a possible five inches has been predicted by some.

Area residents are reminded to exercise caution on snow and ice-covered roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses. The recent frigid conditions, which saw overnight lows in the lower teens on Sunday night, will also compound the situation.

As always, the complete forecast and all advisories, watches and warnings may be found here on
