Make-A-Wish Events Scheduled
Local organizers are now putting the finishing touches on two fundraisers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The first is a "daddy-daughter" dance, being held on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Piggott Community Center. The local Piggott Make-A-Wish committee is also seeking volunteers to man this year's roadblock, which will be held throughout the day on Friday, Feb. 19. The effort is co-sponsored by the Piggott Elementary School WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students).
"We're having our first-ever daddy-daughter dance from 6 to 8:30 on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the community center," committee member Geraldine Crawford noted. "Admission will be a donation, with all the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish. Of course, if you can't attend your donation would still be appreciated."
The attire for the fundraising dance is Sunday dress, or semi-formal, and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The local group will also be coordinating the all-day roadblock, and are still in need of volunteers. Last year Mohawk football players worked the roadblock, although it was organized at the last minute. But, this year there is a possible conflict, so volunteers are being sought.
And, although many consider the effort to be a nationwide program, Crawford is quick to point out it has touched the lives of many local children, as well.
