Gene Wallace Holland
Gene Wallace Holland, 87, of Piggott, Ark., passed away January 31, 2016, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
He was born on June 3, 1928, in Marmaduke, Ark., and was the son of the late Genie and Lois (Smith) Holland.
He was united in marriage to Betty Crouch Dec. 23, 1950.
Gene was a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 40 years from Entergy, formerly Ark-Mo Power. Gene was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, since 1952.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Colonel James Robert Holland and an infant brother, Donald Holland.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Holland of Piggott; a son, Tim Holland and wife Debbie of Piggott; his grandchildren, Scott Moore and wife Heather, Lindsey Nemitz and husband Cameron and Carolyn Speer; five great-grandchildren, Naomi Nemitz, Brayden Moore, Alexis Moore, Morgan Brooks and Rylan McCormick; a sister-in-law, Lisa Holland of Charleston, S.C.; two nieces, Holly Lagasse and Diana Mason and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30. a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, in the First United Methodist Church, in Piggott, with Andy Newbill officiating and Jeremy Pierce assisting. Burial is in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke. Pallbearers will be Randy Qualls, David Gregory, Chad Donner, John Kennedy, Bob Tidwell and Brent Coomer. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
