Catherine Joan Thompson
Catherine Joan Thompson, 72, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 4, 2016, at the St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
She was born on September 13, 1943, in Rector, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Loyd and Mary Whitaker Vangilder.
She was united in marriage to Leroy Thompson on Nov. 25, 1965, and to this union a son was born.
Joan retired after 30 years teaching Business at Piggott High School. She was a devout Christian and faithful attendee of the First General Baptist Church in Piggott, and worked with the Tuesday Ladies Ministry and the WINGS food pantry.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Thompson of Piggott; a son, Lance Thompson of Rector; a granddaughter, Courtney Thompson of Conway, Ark.; three sisters, Carolyn Linam of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Sandra Lentz of Marmaduke, Ark. and Regenia Bettis of Hot Springs, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Elanor Toombs of Piggott and Faye Haney of Weatherford, Tex.; a brother-in-law, Mike Vowell of Marmaduke and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Chris Brantley officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Scott, Connor Rodery, Matthew Vowell, Russell Scott, Michael Lentz and Charles Toombs. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held Saturday evening at the funeral home.
