Orlie Rex Cate
Orlie Rex Cate, 86, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.
He was born on June 5, 1929, in Boydsville, Ark., and was the son of the late Roy Lee and Fannie Floyd (Benson) Cate.
He was united in marriage to Lucille Scheffler on Oct. 4, 1990, and they enjoyed a wonderful twenty-five years together.
Rex proudly served in the United States Army overseas during the Korean Conflict.
He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, a member of Piggott Masonic Lodge #545 for over 60 years, a member of the American Legion for 59 years and also very active in the Democratic Party. Rex loved baseball, whether he was playing during his younger years, coaching Little League, or watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Doyne L. Cate and one sister, Mary Frances Lowery.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Cate of the home; one son, Neil Cate of Little Rock, Ark.; a granddaughter, Sarah (Grant) Dubois, of Rockwall, Tex.; a grandson, Travis Neil Cate, of Conway, Ark.; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Grace Dubois of Rockwall, Tex. along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott, with Reverend Andy Newbill officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Cate, Mark Howell, Mark Burris, David Gregory, Noah Gregory and David Brown. Visitation was held beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and continued until the time of the service at the funeral home.
