Regional Basketball Brackets Set

Regional basketball tournaments get underway Wednesday across the state, and both the Piggott Mohawks and the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds have earned berths in their respective brackets. The Lady 'Hounds fell to eventual district tourney champions Earle Friday evening, and will enter the 2A-North at Sloan-Hendrix as the third seed from their conference. Their first round game set for 7 p.m. Thursday against the Lady Bulldogs of Tuckerman, second seeds from 2A-2. The winner will take on the winner of the Walnut Ridge-Earle contest, which is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, giving the Lady Greyhounds another possible shot at their conference rivals. The other first round girls games include Salem and Riverside at 4 p.m. Wednesday and EPC and Sloan-Hendrix at 4 on Thursday. Semi-finals are Friday at 4 and 7, with the third-fourth place game at noon on Saturday, and the regional championship game will be played at 6 p.m. that evening.

After falling to eventual district tourney champs Osceola in the second round of the 3A-3 at Rivercrest, the Piggott boys enter the regional as the third seed from district, and earn a first round game with the Flippin Bobcats. The contest is set for 8:30 Thursday evening at Yellville-Summit High School. A win in the first round will earn the Tribe a second round contest with the winner of the Osceola-Yellville Summit contest, and a possible rematch with the Seminoles. The other first round boys games at Yellville-Summit include Valley Springs and Rivercrest at 5:30 on Wednesday and Manila and Marshall at 5:30 on Thursday. The winners of those two games will meet in the early contest on Friday. The third-fourth place game is set for 1:30 Saturday with the championship game at 7:30.

In the boy's 2A-North boy's bracket at Sloan-Hendrix, Cross County will take on White County Central at 5:30 on Wednesday and Marked Tree will meet Tuckerman in the late game. The early game on Thursday is between Earle and Sloan-Hendrix, while Walnut Ridge will take on EPC in the late game. The semi-finals are 5:30 and 8:30 Friday, with the third-fourth place game at 1:30 Saturday and the championship game at 7:30 that evening.

The girls' 3A-Region 3 bracket tips off at 4 p.m. Wednesday as the Lady Lions of Manila take on Valley Springs. In the 7 p.m. game the district champion Rivercrest Lady Colts face Mountain View. Thursday afternoon at 4:00 the Lady Mustangs of Hoxie will face Bergman, followed by the 7 p.m. game between Osceola and Melbourne. The semi-finals will be played at 4 and 7 p.m. Friday, with the third-fourth place game set for noon Saturday, and the regional championship game at 6 p.m.

One win in the regional tournament insures a spot in next week's various state basketball tournaments.
