Lady 'Hounds Fall in OT at Regional
Marmaduke overcame a nine point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 58 and force overtime only to see Tuckerman outscore the Lady Greyhounds 7-3 in the overtime period to take a 65-61 win in the opening round of the 2A North Regional Tournament in Imboden.
Tuckerman opened the game with the first six points as Deria Ratliffe scored back to back baskets and Reagan Camp added a basket to make it 6-0 Lady Bulldogs. Jordan Mays hit two free throws for Marmaduke to to make it 6-2 only to see Ratliffe hit one of two free throws to make it 7-2 Tuckerman. Brianna Hood made one of two free throws before Tuckerman got an inside basket from Shelby Gardner and a three-pointer from Katelyn Jackson to make the score 12-3 Lady Bulldogs. Abby Meredith hit a base line jumper for the Lady Greyhounds and Jordyn Lane hit a runner for Marmaduke to make the score 14-5 Tuckerman after one.
Jackson got a stick back basket for Tuckerman and Kelsey McCoy scored inside to make the score 16-7 Lady Bulldogs early in the second quarter. Jackson canned a three-pointer from the right wing for Tuckerman, Mays converted an old-school three-point play for Marmaduke making the score 19-10 Lady Bulldogs. Jackson hit two free throws for Tuckerman before the Lady Greyhounds got a jumper in the lane from Meredith, a three-pointer from Tabitha Hyten who also followed with a steal and lay up to make the score 21-17 Tuckerman. Kaitlyn Peavy scored inside for the Lady Bulldogs and Meredith scored inside for Marmaduke before Lane hit one of two free throws for Tuckerman and Hood drilled a three-pointer for the Lady Greyhounds to make the score 24-22 at halftime.
Tuckerman ran the score to 31-22 to start the third quarter as Taylor Hulett netted a three-pointer, Ratliffe scored inside and Hulett hit a base line jumper. Hood scored inside for the Lady Greyhounds, Ratliffe scored down low for Tuckerman and Natalie Shelton connected on a three-pointer for Marmaduke to make it 33-27 Lady Bulldogs. Ratliffe scored back to back baskets in the paint and Peavy hit one of two free throws for Tuckerman before Meredith hit a base line jumper for Marmaduke making the score 38-29 Lady Bulldogs at the end of three quarters of play.
Ratliffe scored inside for the Lady Bulldogs to start the fourth quarter as Hyten drilled a three-pointer for the Lady Greyhounds to make the score 40-32 Tuckerman. Ratliffe scored inside again for the Lady Bulldogs before Marmaduke got a three-pointer from Mays and one of two free throws from Meredith making it 41-36 Tuckerman. The Lady Bulldogs got back to back baskets from Ratliffe and Katelyn Platt and the Lady Greyhounds got a stick back basket from Desirae Elder to make the score 45-38 Tuckerman. Camp hit two free throws for the Lady Bulldogs before Marmaduke got a stick back from McCoy, a conventional three-play from Natalie Lentz and a three-ball from Hyten to cut the Tuckerman lead to 47-46. Mays hit two free throws giving the Lady Greyhounds their first lead at 48-47 only to see Ratliffe score inside for Tuckerman to retake the lead at 49-48. Ratliffe hit two free throws making it 51-47 before Meredith hit a three-pointer for Marmaduke to tie it at 51 at the end of regulation.
Tuckerman opened the overtime period with back to back baskets from Hulett and Ratliffe to give the Lady Bulldogs a 55-51 lead. Meredith hit two free throws for Marmaduke before Raliffe converted a three-point play and Platt hit one of two free throws for Tuckerman to make the score 59-53 Lady Bulldogs. Shelton hit a runner in the lane for Marmaduke, Platt hit two free throws for Tuckerman and Hood hit a three-pointer from the left corner for the Lady Greyhounds to make the score 61-58 Lady Bulldogs. Jackson hit two free throws for Tuckerman and McCoy converted an old-fashioned for Marmaduke making the score 63-61 Lady Bulldogs. Platt added two more free throws for the Lady Bulldogs setting the final score at 65-61 Tuckerman.
"They (Tuckerman) have a pretty good bunch. Their post player is pretty good." Marmaduke coach Rick Smith said after the game. "We overachieved this year. Took three seniors and won 27 games. Abby Meredith had a great senior year as conference player of the year, Kelsey McCoy had a great two year career and Brianna Hood. They all had a part in that ring we got last year," Smith added. "We'll go back to the drawing board and get ready for next year."
Meredith led the Lady Greyhounds in scoring with 14 points as Hyten added 11 points and Mays tossed in 10 points. Hood finished with nine points, McCoy had seven points, Shelton added five points as Lentz and Elder had three and two points respectively.
Ratliffe led all scorers with 27 points for Tuckerman as Jackson finished with 12 points. Hulett and Platt each tossed in seven points, Camp added four points, Lane and Peavy each scored three points and Gardner chipped in two points.
