'Hound Spring Teams in Action
The Marmaduke Greyhounds opened their baseball season with two difficult losses.
The Hounds lost to Riverside 24-0 with no hits Monday on Riverside's diamond.
On the mound Billy Elder allowed four hits and walked one. Chad Hall took over allowing three hits.
The Hounds lost 18-3 to Marked Tree on Tuesday, March 8.
Austin Easley started out on the mound allowing four hits and walking one. Cody Ails took over and allowed three hits. "Our pitching struggled," coach Kyle Gardner said. "We gave up nine unearned runs with several errors in the field and several walks."
Offensively, Elder was 2 for 2, Hall was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Ails had one hit and one RBI. Nate Rodriguez and D.J. Mitchell each got a hit.
"Our team is young and inexperienced, but I believe if they work hard they will continue to improve,' Gardner said.
The Marmaduke Greyhounds beat Marked Tree in conference softball play, 19-0, on Tuesday, March 8, on the Hounds diamond.
"Six people really hit the ball well," coach Rick Smith said. "Hopefully the rain will stop and let us back in against BIC the 17th."
Sammi Henry took the mound for the Hounds, pitching five innings, striking out seven and giving up one hit.
Offensively, Jordan Mays was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs, Bailey Bridges was 4 for 6 with four RBIs, Natalie Shelton was 3 for 4 and scored three runs, Henry was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Tabitha Hyten was 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
The Lady Hounds are scheduled to play Buffalo Island Central Thursday at BIC.
