Lady Cougars Win Opener

The Rector Lady Cougars opened the season with a doubleheader conference sweep of Cross County last week at home, posting 12-2 and 17-0 softball wins.

"We did alright," said coach Dave Hendrix. "It was slow in the beginning, but picked up."

In the first game, won 12-2, Colby Lynch pitched a full five innings striking out nine, walking two and giving up four hits. Sophie Adams, Lynch, Emma Hobbs and Sawyer Hendrix all had two hits.

In the second game Maddie Hobbs was on the mound. She struck out six, walked one and gave up two hits. Sophie Adams had four hits, Colbi Robinson, Sawyer Hendrix and Tori Hill all had three hits and Emma Hobbs had four RBIs.

The Lady Cougars played Marked Tree for another conference game at 4:30 p.m. at Rector Memorial Park on Tuesday. Details will be in next week's edition of the CCTD.
