Cougar Softball Posts Pair of Wins
The Rector Lady Cougars posted two good softball wins last week, beating Corning 4-2 Thursday, March 17, at the Victory Lake Sports Complex and narrowly taking out Marked Tree 18-16 Tuesday, March 15, at Rector Memorial Park.
Maddie Hobbs pitched seven innings at Corning, giving up eight hits, striking out six, walking one and hitting two batters.
"I thought this was a very well played game for both teams," coach Dave Hendrix said. "Both teams made a couple of mistakes early but once on track both executed well, much better game than Tuesday's."
As a team the Cougars had 13 hits. Sophie Adams had three while Emma Hobbs, Mylesa Gant and Colbi Robinson all got two apiece.
Against Marked Tree Colby Lynch started out on the mound, giving up 10 runs on six hits, walking three and striking out four. Six errors were made in the field behind her. Maddie Hobbs came in and pitched the last three innings, giving up six runs on five hits, striking out three and walking three. Four errors were committed in the field behind her.
Offensively, Tori Hill had four hits, scored four runs and 5 RBIs. Lynch had four hits with 4 RBIs. Robinson had three hits, 3 RBI's and three runs. Sawyer Hendrix had three hits, three runs and 3 RBI's. There were 19 hits as a team.
"This was a very sloppy game. We made 10 errors behind our pitchers," said Hendrix. "We would've gotten out of a lot of innings if we'd just made the plays."
