Lady Mohawks Beat Mustangs Twice
The Piggott Lady Mohawk softball squad posted their first conference win of the season Friday afternoon at Hoxie. The Tribe rode a big day at the plate, and a strong pitching performance by Hannah Powell, to the 11-1 win. Tuesday afternoon the same two teams squared-off, with the PHS squad posting a lopsided 24-3 decision.
Braelyn Rhodes had a hot bat for the Tribe in the first win over the Mustangs, as she went 2 to 3 with a triple. Meanwhile, Devyn Staples was 2 for 4 and drove in three runs, Powell helped her own cause with a 2 for 4 afternoon at the plate, with one RBI and Shelby Morgan was 1 for 3 and drove-in one of the other runs.
Powell got the win, as she held Hoxie batters to a single run en route to the victory.
In Tuesday afternoon's rematch, the Tribe's batters feasted on Hoxie pitching, while senior Devyn Staples got the start, and the win, in the circle.
Morgan had a big game, as she was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Meanwhile, Taylor Choate was 2 for 2 with a double, Powell was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Allison Kilbreath drove in a pair of runs, MaKalia Beck was 1 for 1 and Lexi Herren was 1 for 4 with a double and three RBI in the win.
The softball squad is scheduled to be back in action this Thursday, April 7, as they host the Lady Colts of Rivercrest at Independence Park. Next Monday, April 11, the Lady Lions of Manila will visit the Tribe and the following day, Tuesday, April 12, they're slated to travel to Osceola for a 3A-3 contest with the Seminoles.
