Piggott Chamber Effort Benefits FFA Chapter
Once again this spring the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce conducted a fundraiser which also benefited the Piggott High School FFA Chapter. As they have in recent years, the chamber sold advertising on the bid cards used during the annual FFA Open Farm Equipment Auction, held this past Saturday at the fairgrounds in Piggott.
And, thanks to the generosity of the businesses and farmers who purchased ads, the Chamber of Commerce was able to present the local FFA chapter with a check for $1,700 Saturday morning.
According to PHS agriculture teacher, and FFA advisor, Casey Simpson, the funds will be used to help chapter members attend various leadership conferences and compete in judging contests such as livestock, land, dairy foods, agr mechanics and forestry. It will also help defray the costs of taking part in livestock judging at the county, district and state fairs.
"There are over 115 FFA members in the Piggott Chapter," Simpson noted. "Your support is vital to the students enrolled in agricultural education because these students are the future of agriculture."
On hand to make the check presentation to chapter members was Shawn Parker, president of the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce. "We want to say thank you to all the supporters of this effort," he noted.
