Mohawk Junior Squad Beats Valley View
The Piggott Junior Mohawk baseball squad ran their season record to 5-1 last Thursday afternoon, as they beat Valley View 5-0 to Independence Park. Seventh grader Tanner Dixon got the start, and worked his way out of a bases loaded first inning, to notch the win. Dixon pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and five walks as he struck out three Blazers.
Eighth grader Michael Palmer came on in relief in the seventh inning, and struck out the side to preserve the shut-out. The Mohawk defense also had a strong performance behind them, including a pair of double plays.
Drake Featherston led the offensive effort with a 2 for 3 performance, as he scored a run and drove-in another. Meanwhile, Holden Tarno, Michael Parker and Dixon all contributed hits en route to the victory.
The junior squad was scheduled to host Pocahontas Monday afternoon, but wet conditions forced a postponment. They're slated to be back in action this Friday, April 15, as they host the Corning Bobcats. Next Thursday, April 21, they'll travel to Corning for a re-match, and the following day, Friday, April 22, they're slated to host the Rector Cougars.
