District Softball and Baseball Tournament Update

Thursday, April 28, 2016

The Rector Cougars are 2A-3 baseball district champs, as they rolled through the bracket at Marked Tree on Thursday. The Cougars beat Riverside 9-7 in the semi final, then downed EPC 5-3 in the championship game as the contests were all held yesterday due to the impending bad weather. With the wins they earn a good seed in next week's regional tourney, also being held at Marked Tree.

Meanwhile, the Lady Greyhounds had no problem in their contests, pounding BIC by a final of 11-1 and shutting out Marked Tree 12-0 in the championship game. They'll also take a high seed, and a 21-2 record, into next week's regional.

The Piggott Lady Mohawks have also earned a spot in the upcoming regional, after advancing to the semi-finals of the 3A-3 softball tourney at Manila. As for the baseball Mohawks, they fell to Corning 11-7 Thursday afternoon on the Bobcat's home field, and end their season in the first round of the 3A-3 district tournament.

The Lady Mohawks advanced with a dominating 17-0 win over Osceola, then fell 10-4 to second seeded Rivercrest in the semi. In the top half of the bracket Corning got by Hoxie 11-10, then fell to top seeded Manila 9-8 as the Lady Lions advance to the title game to take on the Colts. That game was set for today, Friday, April 29, although the weather forecast is not promising.

The 3A Region 3 softball tournament will be held next week at Harrison Parks and Recreation, hosted by the Bergman Panthers.
