State Tourney Update

Thursday, May 5, 2016

The Piggott Lady Mohawks and the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds both fell in quarterfinal action in their respective softball tournaments on Friday.

At Parker's Chapel, the Lady 'Hounds lost to a potent Foreman team 13-7 in eight innings. The game went to the tiebreaker after the Marmaduke girls rallied in the home half of the seventh, after 6-4, to tie the game at 6-6. But, the Lady Gators prevailed to advance to tomorrow's semi-finals.

The Lady Mohawks took on Harmony Grove, and ran into the talented L. J. Helmich, falling 4-0. Helmich hit a three run home run in the top of the first, and added a solo shot in the fifth, as she provided all the offense the Lady Cardinals would need. She also pitched a one-hitter against the Tribe in getting the win.

Ironically, she has signed to play softball next fall at Williams's Baptist College in Walnut Ridge.
