Mohawk Track Team at State
Members of the Mohawk track team took part in the state 3A meet last week at Green Forest High School. On the day there were nine state records broke, but the best the Tribe could muster was a third-fourth place finish in the shot put by sophomore Nate Mallard and senior Seth Lacey.
The finish was a flip-flop of the one-two finish at the district meet, when the younger Mallard finished second to his senior counterpart. With the fourth place finish Lacey completes his high school career with back-to-back conference titles, a state runner-up finish as a junior and a top-four showing as a senior.
Senior Logan Dixon finished 11th in the 100 and 14th in the 200 in his final appearance; senior Caleb Welborn was 10th in the 1600 and sophomore Spencer Hardin was 10th in the 3200. Meanwhile, the 4x800 team of freshman Gunner Shaw, Hardin, sophomore Brett Burns and junior Bret Fuller ran their best time of the year and finished ninth. And, the 4x400 team of junior Justin Goding, sophomore Hayden Lemmons, sophomore Johnny Jones and Dixon finished ninth overall and also ran their best time of the year.
Dixon ends his high school career with his name etched in the Mohawk record books, as a key part of the track squad, especially the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams the past three years."
Only one member of the Lady Mohawk track team qualified, as sophomore Emilee Seegraves ran in the 3200, and notched her best time of the year in the process.
"I'm so proud of the way our Mohawks compete and represent our school and community," noted Coach Michael Harrell. "We are blessed to have such amazing young people in our little village!"
