Rector High School Holds Graduation

Superintendent Johnny Fowler presents a Best All-Around Award to Valedictorian Victoria Hill.

A large crowd of family, friends and faculty gathered Sunday at the Rector High School gymnasium to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2016. Thirty-six students stepped over the line between high school and adulthood as they move into the next chapter of life.

The RHS band played the processional as the blue and grey adorned seniors entered the gym.

Principal Wade Williams welcomed the crowd and introduced Ty Haney, who gave a touching invocation. He was followed by Victoria Hill, valedictorian, and Brian Hufty, salutatorian, who gave their respective addresses.

Williams, accompanied by superintendent Johnny Fowler, presented senior awards. Victoria Hill and Brian Hufty were named Best All-Around.

Honor graduates Shaylynn Eubanks, Lawson Ford, Victoria Hill, Brian Hufty, Colby Lynch and Kade Scott were also presented with plaques commemorating their hard work to keep a 3.5 GPA or above.

A grand total of $565,900 in scholarships was presented to:

Katie Anderson -- Arkansas State University Pride scholarship, $28,880; Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, $14,000; Future Teachers of America Scholarship, $100, and the Purcell Scholarship, $1,000.

Denver Book -- Arkansas State University Pride Scholarship, $28,800, and Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, $14,000.

Lydia Bucy -- Hamilton Farms Scholarship, $5,000.

Kaitlynn Chapin -- Clay County Fair Board Scholarship, $250.

Austin Clairday -- Arkansas State University Promise Scholarship, $8,000; Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, $14,000, and the Purcell Scholarship, $1,000.

Lawson Ford -- Centennial Bank Scholarship, $250; Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, $500; Arkansas State University Promise Scholarship, $8,000; Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, $14,000, and the Phillips Memorial Scholarship, $750.

Danny Hager -- Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, $14,000.

Huston Highfill -- Rector First Baptist John Melvin Crockett Memorial Scholarship, $8,000, Helping Hands Book Scholarship, $200 and Natural resource Conservation Service Scholarship, $1,000.

Austin Raspberry-full scholarship for 2016-18 to the John Deere Ag Tech program at Arkansas State University-Beebe.

The senior class led the gymnasium in singing the RHS alma mater, followed by Kade Scott giving the benediction.

Williams then presented the class of 2016.
