Large Crowd Enjoys Movies in the Park Finale
A nice, cool breeze blew through the Rector Downtown Park as approximately 200 people attended the final Movie in the Park, The Sandlot, hosted Monday Night by Rector Downtown Central.
Children played baggo, bounced through an obstacle course, got their faces painted and pictures taken as the fun wound up. Concessions of hot dogs, sodas, candy and more were enjoyed by all. Door prizes were won by Ryan LaRue, Wanda Whitworth, Victoria Brummett and Kim Garver.
The movie started promptly at 8:30 p.m. settling the children in for a cinema treat many of the older attendees grew up watching. The Sandlot was a staple of the 90's and every kid wanted to play ball with the kids on the Sandlot and go through the adventure of the biggest pickle the kids in the movie had ever been in -- being chased by Hercules, summer days at the pool and the great Bambino.
Concession totals have not been added up at this point, but all proceeds will be donated toward repairing the roof on the bandstand at the park. Sponsors of the event include Glen Sain, NewWave Communications, Centennial Bank, Sonic, Harps, The Golden Grotto, Wilson's Outdoors, Mosley Auto Parts, Vintage Junkie, Four Season's Pizza, Michael Lindsey, Honeysuckle & Home, Snow Tax and Financial Service, Greg & Ginger Sain, Crancer & Sigsby Insurance, Sherland Hamilton, Subway, Kennett Walmart, Gerald & Michelle Hartsfield, Farm Bureau, Duncan Chiropractic, Elite Enterprises, Irby Funeral Home and Regions Bank.
"A great big thank you goes out to all of our sponsors and volunteers, because without them we could not have brought these wonderful activities to Rector," RDC executive director Christina Boyd said. RDC looks forward to possibly beginning another segment of Movies in the Park in the fall.
