Work is well underway on the new turf/track project for Parker Field in Piggott. The home of the football Mohawks is getting new natural turf, and a six-lane track.

The old turf was removed earlier this week, and in the days since a caravan of dump trucks has been hauling hundreds of yards of fill to elevate the work site.

The outline of the new track is also evident, although that portion of the project will likely be completed following the upcoming football season. The restroom and concession stand facility will also be addressed in the coming weeks.

The new field should be ready well in advance of the Tribe's home opener, set for Friday, Sept. 9, as they take on the Portageville Bulldogs. That evening a special pre-game, and halftime, show is planned to mark the anniversary of the filming of "A Face in the Crowd," which included local residents and members of the Marching Mohawk Band.
