Filing Period Ends for School Election

Thursday, July 14, 2016

There will be one contested school board race in the county when patrons go to the polls in September. Two candidates filed for the seat on the Piggott Schools Board of Education being vacated by Jeff Benbrook, while the incumbents in both Rector and Corning are running unopposed.

Filing for the seat now occupied by Benbrook, who is wrapping up his second five-year term, were Jimmy Threatt and Chris Crawford. Meanwhile, Rector Board President Jody Simmons is running for re-election without opposition, as is Kirk Scobey in Corning.

The annual school election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 20, and the deadline for those wanting to register to vote in the school election is Monday, Aug. 22.
