John W. "Pete" Gordon
John W. "Pete" Gordon, 91, of Piggott, Ark., passed away July 28, 2016, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott.
He was born on December 20, 1924, in Piggott, and was the son of the late Charlie and Lennie (Walters) Gordon.
He was united in marriage to Grace E. Wiedeman on May 17, 1947, and to this union four children were born.
Pete was a member of the South Thornton Church of Christ in Piggott, and served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division, that jumped into Normandy on D-Day.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace E. Gordon; son, John Richard Gordon; brother, Charles Earl "Bud" Gordon and sister, Laverne Haley.
Survivors include his children, Phillip E. Gordon and wife Peggy of Paragould, Ark., Joe Robert Gordon and wife Sharon of Bay, Ark. and Tammy Gordon of Piggott; a daughter-in-law, Arvalla Gordon of Piggott; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Duane Dutka officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, of Piggott, was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, and continued until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
