High School Football Practice Underway
With the arrival of August, Arkansas also welcomes the official start of the 2016 high school football pre-season, and two-a-day drills. Practice for area teams is now underway, as they prepare for week one, Friday, Sept. 2. Many of the squads are also scheduled to scrimmage, and take part in jamboree format events, to prep for the campaign at hand.
Mohawk Head Coach Michael Harrell reports his senior team is practicing from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday of the next two weeks. The squad will also gather, along with the junior high players, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays.
The junior high squad is currently scheduled to play in a jamboree at Trumann on Monday, Aug. 22, while the senior squad will play in a jamboree at Trumann Friday, Aug. 26.
Meanwhile, the Rector Cougars are preparing under Coach David Hendrix as well, with the junior squad working out at 8:30 a.m. weekdays, and the senior squad practicing at 5:30 p.m.
The Cougars are also slated to scrimmage the Corning Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25. RHS will open the season at home, hosting the Patriots of Palestine-Wheatley at Temerian Field. As for the Tribe, they'll begin the 2016 campaign on the road as they take on perennial 2A contender Hazen in the Hornet's nest.
The Mohawks are slated to host the Cougars for week three, with the contest set to be played at Parker Field on Friday, Sept. 16.
