Parker Field Turf Project Underway

The final preparations on the Parker Field turf project were completed late last week, and Tuesday the first rolls were laid. By that afternoon the majority of the playing surface, end zones and sidelines were covered. The final handful of the 200-plus, 50-yard-long, rolls were unfurled Wednesday, as this phase of the project is completed.
The first game on the new turf, which came from a farm in Ironton, Mo., will be Friday, Sept. 9, as the Portageville Bulldogs visit PHS. The game will also include the special commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the filming of A Face in the Crowd.
The project was contracted to Turf Renovations, of Portageville, and coincidentally the son of the company owner, Kevin Rone, is set to play for the Bulldogs in the first game on the new surface. He wears #5.
