Despite cloudy conditions, and the threat of thundershowers, a good crowd was on hand for the 86th annual Greenway Picnic Saturday, Aug. 6. The picnic is held on the first Saturday of each August in Greenway, with the proceeds benefitting the continued upkeep of the Mitchell Cemetery.

Greeted by a newly-refurbished "Welcome to Greenway" sign, thanks to the efforts of the crew from SoS Customs, the community came to life with the sights and sounds of the annual picnic.

Following the traditional opening ceremonies, the first of the pageants got underway as the Baby Mr. and Miss Greenway contest was held.

Crowned as Baby Miss Greenway was Emilya Cowgill, the eight-month-old daughter of Steven and Sierra Cowgill of Greenway. First alternate is Aniston St. Cin, the nine-month-old daughter of Grant and Cassy St. Cin, of Gideon, Mo., and the second alternate is Graceyn Banning, 11-mont-old daughter of Kasey and Casey Banning of Piggott.

Meanwhile, Preston Parnell was crowned Baby Mister Greenway at the annual picnic Saturday. He's the seven-month-old son of Brittany Austin of Piggott. First alternate is Tucker Laxton, the five-month-old son of Keifer and Tish Laxton of Piggott and the second alternate is Quinn Parker Brown, the one-and-one-half month old son of Tallah Rabjohn and Scott Brown of Piggott.

The next event on the schedule was the toddler contest, as both boys and girls competed for the crowns.

Chosen as Toddler Mister Greenway was Alex Estes, the 16-month-old son of Keith and Holley Estes of Piggott. First alternate is Jess McCord, the 15-month-old son of Justin and Missy McCord of Lafe.

A short time later, Brynli Dell was crowned Toddler Miss Greenway for this year's picnic. She's the two-year-old daughter of Shannon Dell and Lindsey Baggett of Gideon, Mo. First alternate is Aubree Faith Bagwell, the two-year-old daughter of Thomas and Charla Bagwell of Pollard and second alternate is Jocelyn Shavalia, the 23-month-old daughter of Erick and Malorie Shavalia of Rector.

Crowned Little Miss Greenway Saturday afternoon was Nataly Romero, the five-year-old daughter of Kayla Romero of Kennett. First alternate is Sophia Kinnard, the five-year-old daughter of Kodi and Nick Boatwright of Greenway; second alternate is Addison Campbell, the eight-year-old daughter of Keri Campbell of Kennett; third alternate is Arriana Tippitt-Holcomb, the seven-year-old daughter of Malorie and Erick Shavalia, and Caleb Holcomb, of Rector, and fourth alternate is Emily Kopiness the four-year-old daughter of Brent and Tiffany Kopiness of Rector.

Later in the afternoon a large crowd of young ladies competed for the crown of Junior Miss Greenway.

Crowned as Junior Miss Greenway for 2016 was Rylie Collier-Siebert, the 12-year-old daughter of Brian and Karen Collier of Piggott and Bill and Nicole Siebert of Warsaw, Mo. First alternate is Addy Hickson, the nine-year-old daughter of Scott and Brandy Hickson of Piggott; second alternate is Bethany McNeely, the 10-year-old daughter of Shane and Ginger McNeely of Rector; third alternate is Maddi McHaffey, the nine-year-old daughter of Kenneth McHaffey and Stephanie Lamborn of Piggott and fourth alternate is Mikaylah Putt, the 11-year-old daughter of Jessica Nimmo and Bryan Putt of Piggott.

During the late afternoon hours the skies began to clear somewhat, and a good crowd was on hand for the annual auction of donated items. Afterward, the highlight of the annual picnic was held, as Miss Greenway was chosen from among the entrants. And, when the votes had been tallied, a young lady with strong local ties was crowned.
