Jacquelyn "Miss Jackie" Pogue
Jacquelyn Mason Pogue, 84, a longtime resident of Piggott, Ark., died August 30, 2016, in Jonesboro, Ark.
She was born December 11, 1931, in Knobel, Ark., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Mason.
Mrs. Pogue was a graduate of Knobel High School, where she later worked as school secretary while attending college. She earned a BSE degree in English from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and later earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 1952, she was united in marriage to R.E. Pogue. She had a long career in education, touching many lives over the years. She taught school in the Knobel School District and later in the Piggott School District. "Miss Jackie" as she was known by her students, taught school for over three decades, and she loved her students.
Mrs. Pogue was a member of the First Baptist Church in Piggott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.E. Pogue; daughter, Michelle Pogue; granddaughter, Peyton Lytle; two sisters, Geraldine Mason Stayton and Christine Mason Hatley; three brothers, C.R. Mason Jr., Jeff Mason and Thad Mason; nephew, Thomas "Pete" Stayton; niece, Glenda Stayton and great-nephew, Johnny Stayton.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lee Pogue-Lytle and Melanie Pogue; three grandchildren, Booker Mason Lytle, Grace Barrett Lytle and Nicholas Pogue Morgan; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Mason of Knobel; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the First Baptist Church in Piggott, with Rondal Richardson officiating. Burial is in Pirtle Cemetery in Peach Orchard, Ark. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, of Piggott, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5, in the chapel of Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, in Piggott.
