Lady Mohawk Volleyball Splits Sets
The Lady Mohawk volleyball team split matches with two former conference foes in the past week, playing at Brookland on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and hosting the Westside Lady Warriors Thursday evening at Piggott High School.
The teams split with the Lady Bearcats in Brookland last week, with the junior girls taking their match in straight sets 25-22 and 25-20, while the senior squad fell in three straight, 13-25, 25-27 and 13-25.
Colby Crossfield continued to have a strong fall for the senior squad, with 14 assists, 3 digs and 2 kills, while Hannah Powell had 18 digs and Lexi Herren was 16 for 16 serving, with 1 ace and 7 digs. Also contributing were Emily Trosper with 4 kills and 2 blocks, Ally Kilbreath with 3 kills, Bailey Davis with 2 kills and 2 blocks, Georgina Bautista with 4 digs and Grayson Murray with 2 kills.
The Lady Warriors visited PHS last Thursday and split matches with the Mohawk teams. The Piggott junior squad battled back from an early deficit to once-again win, taking the match 2-1 with scores of 21-25, 26-24 and 15-11.
As for the senior squad, they continued to struggle as they fell in straight sets to Westside 14-25, 15-25 and 22-25.
Crossfield again had a strong showing, with a 9 for 9 night at the service line with 1 ace, 12 assists, 7 digs and 2 kills. Powell contributed another 9 digs, while Murray had 3 kills and a block and Trosper had 4 digs, 2 kills and a block. Meanwhile, Davis finished with 5 kills, Bautista had 5 digs, Herren had 2 more digs and Massey had 1 kill on the night.
The junior Lady Mohawks now stand at 3-2 on the season, and 0-1 in conference play, while the senior girls fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference. All teams hosted Cedar Ridge Tuesday evening at PHS, and swept the night. Complete results may be found in the Sept. 14, print and online editions of the CCTD. They're slated to visit Crowley's Ridge Academy Thursday evening in conference play, and the senior squad is scheduled to take part in the Ozark Slam Fest in Harrison on Saturday, Sept. 10. Monday, Sept. 12, they'll be on the road at Midland, and on Tuesday, Sept. 13, they're slated to host Ridgefield Christian.
