RHSSHOF Golf Tourney Held
The Rector High School Hall of Fame golf tournament, held Friday at Kennett Country Club, once again was a great success.
Michael Lindsey, one of the organizers of the annual event, said approximately $5,000 was raised this year. Funds are used for scholarships for Rector High School students, as well as supporting the Cougar athletic program in numerous ways.
The major sponsor for the event is St. Bernards Clopton Clinic. The tournament is held in memory of Dr. Owen H. Clopton Jr., RHS graduate and long-time supporter of the school and its athletic program.
The team of Kelly Scobey, Kirk Scobey, Wade Williams and Ron Benson defended its title this year with a winning score of 60, 12-under-par.
Second place went to a team of Paul Pickens, Brian Baltz, Johnny Sweet and Mark Jones with a score of 61.
Two teams shot 64. Earning the third place prize through a scorecard playoff were Alan Shelton, Dewey Shelton, Greg Ward and Ed Long. Also shooting the eight-under score was the team of Jonathan Kemp, Ron Kemp, Kirk Ford and Mark Manchester.
There were 15 teams participating this year in excellent weather conditions. The 50-50 drawing was won by Jim Speer and he donated the prize money back to the RHSSHOF.
