Piggott City Market Set to Open
The Piggott City Market will officially open for business on Friday, Sept. 9, at 147 South Third Street on the west side of the Piggott Square. To mark the occasion, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting at noon.
Local natives Joe and Tracy Cole have restored the old "Green's Market" building to its original condition utilizing the brick walls, plaster siding, tin ceiling, wooden facade walls and brick and wood arched doorways and windows. In its new life, the "Market" will become a gourmet coffee house with fresh baked goods, prepared in the kitchen at The Inn at Piggott. The location will also serve as a 'drop-off' and 'pick-up' for dry cleaning for Piggott residents.
A part of the Market has also been designed to support an Artisan's Guild where local products will be collected and sold. Local crafts, candies, pecans, sorghum, honey, wooden toys, jewelry and art of all kinds will be regularly featured and available to the public. The coffee house will also serve as a ready-made forum to display and showcase art as well as books by local artists and authors.
The plans also call for the upstairs of the building to be renovated to serve as two separate living units to provide more space for local visitors and authors who are in need of a retreat to focus on their writing.
"All of the art presently on the walls has a direct 'Piggott' connection and is designed to inspire questions and interest in the incredible history and heritage of Piggott, Arkansas" owner Tracy Cole said of the project.
